SPARROW (Horizon Europe)
What is SPARROW?
The three-year Horizon Europe-funded SPARROW project focuses on the resilience of cities and society in the event of power and internet outages. In the project, we want to contribute to the development of an alternative emergency communication system for the so-called digital breakdown and other tools for effective solutions in case of digital infrastructure collapse.
In Pilsen, we will test a pilot scenario of traffic collapse in the form of malfunctioning traffic lights and relevant infrastructure.
In SPARROW, we are also counting on the involvement of the community of young people aged 16+ in the form of a hackathon, and the use of the PilsLab, a live mobility lab currently being set up in the TechTower technology park.
In addition to SITMP, the Pilsen project partners involved include the non-profit association Plan4All and the urban traffic modelling company RoadTwin.
Aims of the project:
- To strengthen society’s preparedness for digital infrastructure failures.
- To develop an emergency communication system and other tools for the first responders to cope with digital collapse.
Results of the project:
- Testing of the communication system in the laboratory environment and in the field.
- Use of SIT drones, digital twin city, polygon for autonomous mobility or security dispatching.
- Engaging the 16+ community through a hackathon.
The SPARROW project brings together 15 partners from eight European countries. It comprises academia, industry, SMEs, public organisations and private experts from Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Greece, Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Czech Republic.
