Strengthening cyber security

As a municipal organisation building a digital infrastructure and metropolitan data network in Pilsen, we place high demands on cybersecurity solutions. Due to the increasing number of new security threats and the need to respond to them in the future, we have continued to implement new technologies that will ensure more effective protection against cybersecurity risks. This applies not only to communications network environment, but also to the end devices and users themselves.

The current solution is already reaching its performance capacity, as data flows and the number of protected web applications (more than 200 applications and other services) grow. There is a need to ensure continuous automated protection of endpoints, mobile devices, servers, data storage, communication network elements and similar devices. All with the ability to centrally manage, collect, and analyse events.

Aims of the project:

  • to strengthen cyber security in selected areas of the Metropolitan Data Network,
  • to deploy new technologies to detect and respond to cyber security events,
  • to implement two-factor user authentication.

Results of the project:

  • deployment of new Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) and Web Application Direwall (WAF) technologies,
  • cyber security event detection solutions,
  • the use of two-factor user identity authentication (two sets of steps to identify a user, i.e. a password and, for example, a mobile phone PIN or physical token).

The City of Pilsen has received a grant of CZK 26.9 million including VAT for the project entitled Enhanced Communication System to Increase Cyber Security within the National Recovery Plan – Cyber Security – Municipalities – Component 1.2 Digital Public Administration Systems. SITMP started the implementation of the project in September 2023 and expects it to be completed by the end of August 2025.
